Installing the app (beta)

I'm Hero OBD2 Scanner is currently in TestFlight beta. To join:

1. Install TestFlight from the App Store.
2. Email [email protected] with the Apple ID email you want to test with, and we'll send an invite.
3. Open the invite, then install the app from TestFlight.

What you need

• An iPhone on iOS 17 or later.
• A standard ELM327 OBD-II adapter — Bluetooth LE (e.g. Veepeak, Vgate iCar Pro BLE) or Wi-Fi. Classic-Bluetooth-only adapters are not supported on iPhone.
• A vehicle with an OBD-II port (most petrol cars since 2001, diesel since 2004).

Connecting

1. Plug the adapter into the OBD-II port (usually under the dashboard) and turn the ignition to ON (engine running is fine).
2. Open the app and tap the connect button, then Scan.
3. Bluetooth: pick your adapter from the list (the closest one is at the top). You do not pair it in iOS Settings — connect inside the app.
4. Wi-Fi: join the adapter's Wi-Fi network in iOS Settings, then in the app enter its address and port (commonly 192.168.0.10 : 35000) and connect.
5. No adapter handy? Use the built-in Demo adapter to explore the app.

Troubleshooting

• Adapter not in the list — make sure the ignition is on, the adapter's light is on, and Bluetooth is enabled. Some cars cut power to the port when the key is off.
• Connects, then drops — cheap Wi-Fi adapters can be flaky; the app auto-reconnects. Move the phone closer, or try a different adapter.
• VIN shows "—" — not every car reports the VIN over OBD; live data and codes still work.
• A value reads oddly — the app only polls parameters your car reports as supported, but some ECUs report non-standard values. Send us the details.

Reading & clearing codes

Open the Codes tab to read stored, pending and permanent trouble codes, each with a description. Tap Freeze frame to see the data captured when a code set, or Share report to send a summary to a mechanic. Clearing codes turns off the check-engine light but does not fix the underlying fault — if the problem persists, the code returns.

Sending us logs

If something misbehaves, go to Settings → Diagnostics and tap Share debug log or Share crash log, then email it to us. Logs stay on your device until you share them.
